Heswall, Telegraph Road c1955
Heswall, shrimp boats on the Slipway c1955for the following LoveBucket thanks Heswall Pages by KennetRoseshrimps were caught in the Dee and cooked on board the boats on the way back to the slip. The fishing was a thriving industry in those days. The Wirral is the tongue of land that protrudes into the Irish Sea between Liverpool and North Wales. It is bordered to the northeast by the River Mersey, to the southwest by the estuary of the River Dee, and for a short stretch in the northwest by Liverpool Bay.
.
The Mersey shore is densely populated, industrialised and depressed; of little interest except for the Victorian model village of Port Sunlight. The Dee shore is marked by a long ridge of sandstone, which gives the local buildings their characteristic smokey-pink colour. The ridge is covered in heathland and gives beautiful views of the Dee estuary and North Wales. The centre of the Wirral was once low-lying marshland - the mediaeval author of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight wrote of "The Wildernesse of Wyralle" - and is now dotted with picture-postcard villages that are little-known outside the area.
.
Apart from the views, the sunsets are spectacular!

Good thread idea. I wsa born in the world's most boring national capital, Ottawa, in Canada's centennial year, 1967. I'll look for pics of it at that time.

I grew up in the shadows of the old Metropolitan Stadium. Here's a pic. It was replaced by the Metrodome in 1982. The Met was torn down and the Mall of America (Mega Mall) now stands in its place.

Do you have any pictures from Saudi in the 50's? I'd love to see those.
Guernsey, Channel Islands, 1976 but no pics yet as I don't know what happened to them all when my Gran became ill. It was only my Gran and me that were ever interested in photographs, no-one else even bothered to look at them. I'll see if I can google some though.
