TEFLWatch takes the low road in closing its forums. In the closing note, the admin shames ajarn.com, maiking what sound like wild accusations. He then specifically names one person involved in an unrelated dispute as another primary reason for the site closing, an act that violates the site's own rules.
Despite its many flaws, the site was somewhat useful. Closing it down is totally selfish. Writing the diatribe on the site closing page seems petty to me. There were many reasonable ways to address the problems the admin felt existed - he took the most extreme. Other parts of the site are still functional. If the admin cared about teachers he would close the threads to further posting, but permit access to the useful information compiled by sincere teachers over many years.
TEFLWatch Forum - Index
TEFLWatch Forum is permanently closed. I am rather irritated that trolls have been allowed to run roughshod over this forum. This forum is closed for several reasons.
1) Too many personal attacks against me. Personal attacks against me have been condoned by Ajarn Forum. I have reported them and they remain. I can only surmise that Ajarn Forum is attempting to protect their advertisers by allowing these attacks, against their rules, to go on and on.
2) An account was made on Ajarn Forum. The account was not mine, but the account was used to make many trollish posts. Not a problem, right? Well, a moderator claimed that the account was mine. I can only surmise that an administrator on Ajarn Forum created the troll account. Why would they want to do that? To protect advertisers?
3) I have other reasons why I am closing this down and I have agreed to do a Hot Seat interview with Bangkok Phil of Ajarn.com concerning this.
Ajarn Forum needs to allow teachers to name and shame schools. As teachers get screwed in the coming several months, Ajarn Forum might feel the need to have a TEFLWatch out there, but don't let them slurch their responsibility. They make money on teachers getting jobs, they need to take the heat when those jobs turn sour.
I think we all need to be clear that all of this began because I caught a poster by the name of ------- taking money to attack teachers at ------- School and the ----- Agency. He attacked teachers who were complaining about the school and agency. Because good people didn't stand up alongside me, this resource is gone for good. Many teacher will not have the access to information that they had before. Why? Because ------- sold out his fellow teachers for a bowl of porridge.

What's wrong with this rant?
Gotta pull up a chair for this one.
What's the problem here? Sounds like he's might have a legitimate beef. Why not hear him out before flinging personal invectives?
Do you think the moderators here would create an account for the purpose of making him look bad? It seems very unlikely to me.
I've been a reader of both sites for years. I log into both daily. I feel that a valuable resource that helped many teachers has just been removed, and I don't follow the logic.
"Might" being the operative word. He doesn't give examples and doesn't name names, so how could anyone know?Originally Posted by mugwump

And, I know that there was some mud slinging several months back on this forum but the mods put an end to it. Is there something else that I don't know about?
Bring back TEFLWatch...it was incomplete as not enough schools were listed but I thought it valuable and growing more so.
He doesn't need to cos every long termer except Hamster knows the background.Originally Posted by Asper

Lets wait for the 'hotseat' interview.
Good Whitey. Have you fixed a date for the interview with Phil.3) I have other reasons why I am closing this down and I have agreed to do a Hot Seat interview with Bangkok Phil of Ajarn.com concerning this.
Definitely will look forward to reading that.
Maybe after the interview and a few comments here on the forum you will come back and help illuminate the matter.
Whitey....illuminate?? That'll be the day.
Pretty dismissive remark. If you know that much more than 'whitey' then please enlighten us.Originally Posted by jimbo
I wonder if Phil agreed to interview the guy. Especially since Whitey's making some serious claims against this forum's moderation team.
Should be interesting though!
Well, hotseat interview and all. ^ Should be a good discussion starter if nothing else.
I guess the real problem is that this whole sage over the past few months has become entirely obscure with overlapping plots and subplots, generally impossible to follow.
I have to agree that a forum like TEFL is amuch needed resource. If Whitey doesn't continue on, then somebody else will set up a site right quick, I would think.
Hell of a job. Anybody running the place has to be a thorough professional whois able to establish credibility quickly and then operate in a manner above reproach. no personal attacks and such. Like I say, hell of an undertaking with probably limited financial gain, though there is potential there.
Just occured to me that what would be interesting right here on the forum would be a direct forum interview. Phil asking the questions and Whitey responding. After a few pages we could have "questions from the audience', as in member here. We would require a moderator.
What do you say Whitey and Phil. How about a "live" forum interview. Well moderated and organized would be great.
Great idea Russell!!!!!
Nice idea Russel, so are there any takers?
