Re: Southern Ajarners' Bash 31st May, Krabi.
I won't bore you all with random holiday pictures, but I show you just one more. This fan room with large bathroom cost us 500B per night, including all meals and the the staff there even cured me of the dengue fever that I brought back with me from Krabi so all-in-all good value:

Two days RedSox, just got out an hour or two ago. Funny thing is I survived the first two hellish days through my own stubbornness and felt much better on the third day but several family members forced me to go to hospital. Lucky they did because my white and red blood cell counts were less than half of what they should be and were still falling so I could have gone into 'shock' whatever that means.

Well, let me use this emoticon again...
But I'm glad to know that you're out of the hospital and feeling better.
Be sure to take it easy for a few days.

I'd love to mate but palm-cutting time has come around again so I'm off to the plantation tomorrow. Once that's done I'll have a really long rest surrounded by DVD's, books and food.

Re: Southern Ajarners' Bash 31st May, Krabi.
LLL, it's nice to see a fellow dengue-sufferer on here!
It's quite interesting: all the people I know who've had dengue fever (including myself) caught it in Krabi province. Always in June/July, too (that's to do with the weather, obviously). Seems like Krabi's a bit of a dengue hotspot. Is there much of it in Surat, as far as you're aware?

Re: Southern Ajarners' Bash 31st May, Krabi.
I recently had this conversation with the in-laws and then with the nurses and it does seem as if Krabi is noted for this illness. The Wife also caught it there when she was on holiday seven years ago. One young child died of dengue fever here in Surat last year but that was an isolated case and it seems to be quite uncommon.

Re: Southern Ajarners' Bash 31st May, Krabi.
Strange - and interesting. I wonder why. Could it be that the Krabi authorities don't do a very good job of dengue prevention?

Re: Southern Ajarners' Bash 31st May, Krabi.
Perhaps certain areas are more isolated and harder to administer. There is no road access to Ton Sai, Railey East, Railey West or Laem Phra Nang.
Boon, did you go straight to hospital and how long did it take you to recover?

No; probably a bit like your situation. I was feeling really sleepy for days, and having nasty headaches. I ended up just sleeping in my hut most of the time. I had a sleeping bag on me and my fan switched off, but I was still freezing. I had a thermometer on my rucksack, and it was registering 32 degrees C as the ambient temperature in my room. That's when I knew that something was definitely not right!
I dragged myself over to the hospital (everywhere's walking distance on Ko Phi Phi), and the doctor put one of those blood pressure gauges on my arm, until the tell-tale dengue rash appeared on my arm. Then I had to stay in hospital on a drip for 3 days. After that, I was fine.
According to Killing Me Softly 101, the second time you get dengue can be much worse than the first. So steer clear of Krabi in June and July from now on!

Oh, Bao'Tuart I was too hung up with the NBA Finals and just now saw that you're down, but not out! I know you will hang tough and will soon recover much stronger! Take good care mate.
