Re: Had Yai in Thailand
well, I have a sneaking suspicion that half my children were in the womb while their parents were liberally partaking of many 8-ball, so in that respect, yes, I guess I do.

Re: Had Yai in Thailand
I just got a two year contract in Bahrain at an Intl. school, which is the career of choice for this boy. Sadly Hat Yai doesn't have any International schools. I will certainly visit though. Still have loads of friends there.

Re: Had Yai in Thailand
Yes that's a good-paying gig. But my career choice is to be in the company of people I admire, a culture that offers something worth absorbing, good eats, Western conforts. That's why I chose Thailand.
Really mate, Arabs suck, no matter what they pay.

Re: Had Yai in Thailand
Home is where the Hat is
Hat Yai has a great fusion of cultures, albeit mainly Chinese and then Islamic. It's an Asian tourist town at weekends. Yes there's lots of girlie bars etc. there, there's also a hell of a lot of shops, hotels, music bars, a colourful atmosphere and you never get bored. The people are ok, I lived right amongst them for some time. To me the place is home but everyone has their own perspective. I don't go the falang scene much in the Hat, there's shitloads of other stuff.
One man's fish is another man's poisson but me, I always feel well good in the Hat.

Re: Had Yai in Thailand
I find that it's very interesting that Grasshopper calls Hadyai his home...I'm honor and gladly except his words.
Hadyai is my home town also, it is what it is...I was born there, in a little sleeping town of Kuan Lang.
Maybe one day, I'll go back.

Re: Had Yai in Thailand
I've stopped there a few times but not for more than a few hours, I find the city rather dull and the one-way systems rather unnecessary. Having said that I'm not going to write the place off until I've checked it out properly so I'm looking forward to spending a weekend there for a future Ajarners' Bash.

Re: Had Yai in Thailand
Yeah it is, but it's another Thai city with a bad reputation amongst foreigners and it disappoints me really as there is so much to see and do here.

I just had a lot of memorable times there, too many to call memories

I think LLL was talking about his hometown (Surat?).

Re: Had Yai in Thailand
Hat Yai's great. Has been my home for more than two years. It's gotten considerably quieter with the restlessness in the other three southern provinces and the occasional incident in Hat Yai, but all in all, I like it.
Just enough of the western things I might want from time to time...like a Sizzler, but close enough to the beach to be nice (Songkhla) without the fat, beer swilling oil workers that Songkhla has.
I plan on spending several years there...maybe the rest of my life.
