My take on 'The Crying Game' was that (s)he was a Hermaphrodite. A person born with both sets of genitals, or possibly just a very good-looking pre-op transvestite who, for whatever reason, hadn't had the snip. They didn't clarify, which added to the hub-bub surrounding the film...

Research does show that those that are the most homophobic are so because they are likely to be suppressing desires that they don't have the courage to pursue. There is a very interesting psychology paper where they monitored men's view of homosexuality and then correlated it with their physical response (if you know what I mean) while watching gay porn. The more vehemently anti gay the man was, the more likely he had suppressed homosexual desires.....

The actor concerned was a young gay guy from Cailfornia. I was quite impressed with his performance because I actually thought it was a female acting drag.

I didn't get that take. My understanding the LB was a genuine female personality in a male body. Actually the story was more about the ironies of life rather than the LB bit.

Interesting comment...I was discussing this with a farang friend in Thailand...like how Thais don't seem to be into kinky sex as much as the "suppressed" societies like the Japanese or Germans...and so many gay dudes just come out with it rather than living in a closet...tolerance is a marvellous thing.
