Well, the dude finally found out a couple of weeks ago that he's been married to a katoey for 3 or 4 years. He disappeared for 3 days, was unreachable, and when he returned he said he'd thought it over and that he doesn't care because he loves her/him as she/he is and that it doesn't change anything. So a happy ending and she/he is ecstatic to not be living a lie anymore.
Oh, and I got the story a bit wrong. The katoey is a nurse and was already working and living in NZ when she met the hubby. I think she/he stayed on after finishing school there.
