A Million Dollars in Bangkok
So, we have lots of threads on the cost of living in Thailand, how much do you spend / need etc etc.
How's about reversing it.
Lets say you are in Thailand and you have a million dollars riding on your hip, it puts you at a certain financial level.
Now, to acheive that same level in the UK, how many pounds sterling would you require - whats the equivalent GBP ne worth of being a USD millionare in Thailand.
Same question for the American readership .

And you are a teacher earning 50,000 THB what do you think the British / American equivalent is?
Cheers

Re: A Million Dollars in Bangkok
You mean what would we do with $1,000,000 or sterling equivalent? Easy, I'd build a huge animal rescue centre.

Re: A Million Dollars in Bangkok
with $1m usd id get a partner and bring krispy kreme to thailand! central couldnt do it, but i would be able. its only 50m thb!
as for monetary bang for your buck, depends on where ya live. generally, id put the US at 2:1. so a teacher making 50k here would need to make about $3k back in the states.

Re: A Million Dollars in Bangkok
It's simple really. The cost of living in the US is 10x Thailand and UK is 20x. So it would be like you had $10,000,000 in the US or 10 million pounds in the UK(10,886,104.48 pounds at today's rate). Prices vary from city to city, but overall-New York, London, Bangkok-the math is good enough for these.
Take your $10,000,000 to Beverly Hills and you can barely buy a house... lol, Same for Manhattan et al. I'm guessing some areas of Bangkok and Phuket are pricey as well. Your $1,000,000 won't buy much at the beach-fronts of Phuket(maybe a nice villa), but in Samut Prakhan you'd get 5 mansions.
