Thread: Question for Isaan Experts

Flying from BKK to Taipei last April I was looking out the window and saw something I thought was unusual.

What I saw appeared to be a town laid out like the crosshairs of a rifle scope. There were two perfect circles(maybe three), one inside the other, bisected by two streets running north/south and east/west.

It's hard to judge the size from the air but this was not a small feature. It was several miles from the Mekong but not too far.

I thought it may have been one of the refugee camps but I can't find anything on the net. I searched through Google Maps looking at the satellite images of the entire area but could not find it, I believe it's in one of the mysterious blurry areas you sometimes get on Google.

Anyway, it's been driving me nuts for months so I'm checking here to see if anyone can identify this and put my mind to rest.

I found this but this isn't exactly what I remember, it's not a complete circle. Still, I'd like to know what this is as well. Looks like a Wat and some type of circular lake?
