Thread: What's the stupidest thing you've done for a Thai?

First trip to LOS some time ago.

When I first went to my new GF's crappy crowded accomodation in Pattaya
they were all having lunch sitting on the Floor.....SO I BOUGHT THEM A TABLE AND SIX CHAIRS!!!

Easy....moved to Thailand.

The things we do for love and/or spouses -- though I suppose that since we've switched to living in the west she could say the same thing. Is there a "dumbest thing you've done for a farang" thread out there in some alternate universe?

I over tip a bit too often, just because I'm in a good mood, which generally lowers the quality of service for everyone else, which probably increases the amount of whinge posts I have to then respond to on the net. It's a vicious cycle.

Getting p*ssed and trying to impress a waitress with a 5,000 baht tip. I thought I was onto a sure thing, but she left 10 mins later with her boyfriend

While visiting my in-laws I got really tired of looking at the massive ant trails going up the walls and across the ceiling. Cobwebs were everywhere and the place was a dirty pit. Being the good-natured bloke I am, I ran off down to the hardware store and bought a few gallons of paint, brushes and rollers. I came strolling up the lane with a big smile on my face. My wife told me to take it all back to the store and forget about it -- bad idea. Seems the house is being rented. She said if improvements are made, the landlord will increase the rent, or worse, kick them out for better tenants.

From the same line of reasoning that sees repeat restaurant patrons getting increasingly shitty service.

good on ya! 2000 is nothing to 'us' & it probably made all the difference to them...
