The south being flooded, I went up to Vientiane for the first time just before songkran. I'd heard people raving about Beer Lao several years ago, so I tried it once here in BK, but wasn't impressed. I've always liked dark beer though, so when I was up there I ordered a dark Beer Lao and liked it a lot. (I can drink Guinness, but it's a bit too dark for my taste). I've heard some people say Beer Lao is available at a few places in BK. Anyone ever seen the dark variety here? I really enjoyed it. Thx, DP
enjoyed two bottles of the dark only lat nite. bought them at the food hall in centran world for too mutt maybe. 65 baht i think it was. and one of those fake english pubs, i can't remember they all sound the same. molly malone maybe, on soi convent at sala daeng station, in the bar upstairs, i saw a row of said brew.
it's available at makro in phuket. try a makro location near you.
its a bit dissapointing tbh
Serial Wolf Bagger
probly because you listened to the ravers. ravers create the disappointment in the world. like, okay, a perfectly okay quaff from outta lao tries to gussy itself up a bit with labels and that, maybe some adverts with young guys acting like twats and drinking said beer in a notably upscale establishment, and so humble beerlao dark sits on a shelf for sale.
then raving pinkskinned twats from over yonder who are blown away over everything, gulp a frosty beerlao dark and they're like OMG! WTF! HTA! THIS BEER IS THE MOST AMAZING BEER IN THE WORLD!
and then guys like you hear all this raving and you're like, omg, i really gotta try summa this beerlao dark to get in on the excitement.
and then you click onto ajarn and the op's desire for a change from chang and chang draft.
I can get it in Tops at Future Park. Enjoying one now...![]()
What's Makro--I'm n not familiar with it. A bar? A supermarket?
I usually drink Hiney Skin--don't care for Thai beers. Lao Dark was an interesting change.
I wonder if it's available on tap any where? (Maybe not even in Lao??)

"Take this, brother; may it serve you well."
Not that much bulk! Pick up a case ot two. Lay them down in a chalk cave cellar...
Actually, from the description of this beer, it's putting me in mind of 'mild'
Uncle Albert, down the Rovers Return, supping his Beer Lao Dark with Minnie Caldwell and Ena Sharples..
Nah, never happen. I remember when he got the mega-hump with Ken Barlow when he bought a Volkswagen in 1975.
The more I think about how they tasted while relaxing amidst all the excellent cuisine in Vientiane, the more I want one. And I never once woke up groggy after imbibing (granted, I don't over indulge). I wonder if other Tops have them, 'cuz Future Park is (as we say where I come from), in bumfuk Idaho, in relation to where I camp (Chitlom). Guess I'll have to look in the Tops on Thong Lo....
