Christian proselytizers in Pattaya; oxymoronish, it is...
Frederick Douglass: Find out just what any people will quietly submit to
and you have found out the exact measure of injustice
and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these
will continue till they are resisted with either
words or blows, or with both.

    anything of them.Ē

I must agree. There are plenty of Issan villages that would welcome a missionary family in their midst. Problem with that is that the family would actually have to live in Issan. No Saphon Cable, no 5 star resorts, no Central Festival Beach, no Major Cinemas, no 3G, no bowling alleys, no Starbucks, no Fuji, Zen, Au Bon Pan. A tough life.

Water buffalow, chao na, som tam, khao niao, plaa raa.

Preaching to really hardworking poor people and teaching them about the dangers of "Cholangiocarcinoma"from liver fukes and getting them on a dose of antihelmintics well.........????

......definitely harder than hanging with with the ladies at your villa in Pattaya and having a few farang in Pittsburgh send monthly stipends for it.
If you want to challenge the world's most powerful factions, you're going to get attacked in all sorts of ways. That's the nature - the essence - of power: it is capable of exacting a cost for defying it.--Glenn Greenwald

Couldn't agree with you more! I can't stand these hypocrites - they don't actually care about 'saving' these women, all they care about is scoring more converts, while not caring at all about or respecting local culture and beliefs...

    Well put.

Nana Plaza - the heart of the thai sex trade.

    Good grief.

And one of the hookers told the missionary she'd rather be dead. No, she'd rather be young and still shaggable.

I really wonder if any of their parishioners giving them money *know* where and how their glorious pastors acquired their questionable familiarity with these places of sin...?

I didn't agree with your earlier appraisal of the working girls' plight being over-dramatised, ie many of them are from Isaan and have little or no formal education and are easy prey to the unscrupulous. The teddy bear image rings true as well- I've seen many girls with small dolls and teddy bears attached to their backpacks and swinging from their mobile phone straps. But this quote is not far from the mark. They say they want to help, but will they go out to the villages and speak passa Isaan and eat bugs and put up with questionable plumbing and sanitation conditions, or will they, as you suggest, get a few monied Christians to fund everything (including their airfare! WTF?) so the wife can live closer to her mom?
    This space for rent.

    Of course not.

Nope... it's worse. They do it "for their god", so their god can collect a few more souls.
