For purposes of discussion only, say, hypothetically, in another dimension, a parallel one, but one of time and space, you were provided with a loaded Glock 9 and a functioning time machine.
What/who (if any) would you do (away) with them?
Three who come to mind for Cal and I are:
Lee Harvey Oswald, suprised early on 22/11/63 in the Texas Schoolbook Depository
Sirhan Sirhan, startled before Bobby Kennedy's speech ended in the kitchen of LA's Ambassador hotel on the evening of 4/6/1968
Mao, interrupted in his classroom in Changsha circa 1925
It would be interesting to see if Kennedy still got shot...
There are far more targets to choose from than bullets in the clip of a Glock 9...
Hitler, Jesus (if he really existed at all), Cortez, L Ron Hubbard, Stalin, Both G W Bushes, Margaret Thatcher, Every Pope...etc...etc...
Of course I would make a list and shoot the earliest ones first and flick back to the future to check how it has changed and then modify the list.
We could all sit outside on banana lounges discussing the best way to rebuild a 4WD transmission and agree, through shared stories of conquests supporting our assertions, that there is no basis to the proposition that those least assured of their persuasions are the first to condemn others for theirs.
after having just read a minute-by-minute account of the 1976 thammasat massacre and how samak denied all those deaths and then got rude with the interviewer for challenging him, i'd say samak. i realize he's dead but he should have been looking down the barrel of a gun before he and that fat face of his started decomposing.
on another day it would be constantine.
1) my parents: why they thought I needed to be here is beyond me...
2) the entire native population of Kuwait: a gigantic farting mass of bloated toads...
3) Sub-Saharan Africa: its one contribution to mankind is to demonstrate what hell might look like...
4) Steven Spielberg: I used to love a trip to the shore...
5) Drunk Brits: is there enough ammo on earth to solve the problem?
...majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd...
^^ Hopefully before the council of Nicea in 325 AD.
Frederick Douglass: Find out just what any people will quietly submit to
and you have found out the exact measure of injustice
and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these
will continue till they are resisted with either
words or blows, or with both.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn;
“Don’t believe them, don’t fear them, don’t ask
anything of them.”
Yes, Oswald might just have been carrying curtain rods after all
I'd vote for Mao out of TQA's list
Hitler at the Burgerbraukeller on 8 November 1939. Persuade him to stay on for 13 more minutes at the podium and Georg Elser's bomb would have got him (escape yourself before the bomb goes off, of course).
