    BBC World vs Fox News

Being a cheap bastard and living in the sticks I just take my local cable rather than buy UBC it costs me 350 a month and I get Star World, BBC World and another 15 or so English channels.

    I also get Fox News.

I didn't find out about hurricane Katrina until the next day when I was watching BBC World in the morning at 6:00am. I thought it would be a good idea to turn to Fox News (previously I had never even looked at it) as it was an American channel.

After five minutes they had played lots of loud music and showed a few clips. They had had a commercial break and a weather report. After another five minutes that same thing happened again.

I learnt nothing about Kartrina. So I went back to the BBC where I got a clear and concise report on what happened.

What sort of news network is Fox News then? I just didn't see any news at all. Are all American news channels like this?

Fox News is a wholly owned susbsidiary of the American Republican Party and its corporate handlers (oil, nuclear, miltary support industries). Rupert Murdoch is the titilar head of this "news" channel and he bows down to the conservative forces currently running things in America. Fox is more interested in flashiness than actually reporting on things relevant to its audience. If you want to see a good police chase or hear about the latest celebrity-in-court drama, then Fox is your best bet.

CNN is a little more objective but their graphics aren't as flashy.
In the beginning there was nothing. Then God said "Let there be light!" Now, there was still nothing but at least you could see it.

no, FOX is a monster unto itself. CNN is more mainstream american news, if you want something to compare to.

That's the worst of the yank news channels. CNN and ABC are fine I rekon.

You can thank Aussie Murdoch (sp?) for it though. It is a new low for integrity in journalism.

I occasionally tune in to Fox News, but never for too long. It's very jingoistic and pro Bush, pro Iraq war, military, etc. They're never on for long before cutting to interminable weather reports - probably ad breaks back home? I flick through them all - even worse than Fox is Euro News.
By far the best tv news prograamme is Channel 4 News with Jon Snow, but you wouldn't get that in Nakhon Nowhere.

I was on News 24 with my mate last week, at 6am UK time, kayak surfing on the beach at Lowestoft at sunrise, which is what they were there for, being the easternmost point of the UK, but as it was on live I didn't see myself
    Sur votre bicyclette, mate.

I wish I had taken FOX with my cable package. I hate how CNN has this anti-Bush agenda. He's such a good and honest man. Not to mention a great President

Let me explain for you, Mrs.Q.

Fox 'reporters' (the same as CNN), before making a report on natural disasters, need time to go out and buy the latest tommy hillfiger water proof jacket andÂ*£$%^%a hat that is sure to blow off in any kind of windy conditions, before driving around in their mercedes benz bus looking for the most ridiculuos place to make a TV report (a place where they are sure to get splashed with lots of water, almost blown over, and where all you get is a distorted sound in the microphone because of all of the 'rain and wind')

You have to keep in mind that it's all about the people presenting the news--and not the news itself.

    I hope this helps..

The role of journalism is to be honest and critical of those in power. This role has and will continue to serve We The People of the United States. CNN does just that (although I'd say they're are also news-lite)- they bring up issues about presidents (yes, they question Democrats when they have power too- of course nobody can remember those days). To say they are "anti-Bush" is simply wrong, not to mention misguided, and finally naive. Fox news does not question those in power and is therefore NOT journalism in any way, shape, or form. Stop fooling yourself.

I feel a bit naive about this whole American news business.

I have no idea who the demorcats are or who is in power just now if it is the republicans or democrates or what the difference between the two is.

I don't know what TV station is biased towards who.

Probably a good thing my naivity
