Where is a nice place to go in thailand

I've been here some 6 months.

So far, I have only seen Bangkok, Chiangmai and Ko Samet.

I am based in Chiangmai at the moment, but that maybe going to change soon.

I have some spare time on my hands but not a great deal of cash.
I would like a five day holiday.

    Thanks.
I want to stay in Thailand, though.
I would ideally like to go somewhere unusual that tourist people don't often get to.

I actually have never been there.
    I heard it was ok.
I'd prefer to not be anywhere near Bangkok or any other very large cities.

I am told that Mae Hong Son is nice.
    Is it nice?

Aiii. Well over ten years since I passed through there. I wouldn't describe it as "nice" but it was interesting.

Quite a number of NGO-types running about trying to save the region as I recall.

But yeh...it was a little bit cowboy and a little bit rocknrolla.

Try the province next to you, Chiang Rai. Google it, many sights to see and not expensive.

Also there's Nan which is a pretty remote province. Not that far from Chiang Mai. Awesome scenery.

Pai is a shithole, fucking terrible place, although it is nothing that a good firebomb couldn't sort. 20 years ago it was a beautiful quiet place, now it is a movie fuelled, coffee shop populated crap hole.

Nan is ok, reasonable place, I like Chiang Rai as well.

However OP, to better answer your question, what is it that you are into? We need some details here (a bit like your unfair thread). Do you like mountains, beaches or temples, do you want to sit around and do nothing or do you like trampling around ruins? If you want somewhere isolated, that tourists don't go to, all roads lead to Pilok.

    Yeah, avoid Pai....

How about a bike trip? Chiang Mai - Mae Hong Son would be great fun.
I'm so ugly, that's okay 'cos so are you.

hehe, he seems to be good at that.
Besides, I've been told he's not much of a traveller.
