Alright. Got one group of em, just pleasant and down to do the job just like the rest of us. Love em to pieces.
The other have cliqued-up and are determined to undermine all sorts of normal, everyday interactions, such as spreading the common announcements, disciplinary procedures (for students), and how we relate as a group to our bosses, who can't help themselves but regard us as a common foreigner group.
Their grief stems from perceived injustice in salary, benefits, and what you might expect.
While I sympathize with them to a significant degree, I was not responsible for recruiting them, drafting the contracts they signed, nor any other agreement. In fact, many of them have been at my place of work far longer than I, and their grievences predated my arrival.
They take it out on the farang amongst us, myself of course included, this chip they've felt poorly about but maintained forever.
It is poisoning an otherwise productive, collaborative, and progressive workplace, not to mention cause detriment to our program whose goal is to give our students the best possible education and experience.
I'm pretty much tired of it. I've worked with uppity people in every job I've ever had, but in years of experience in various countries, I've never been around a bunch who tried to sabotage the well-being of so many other people in such a way.
Does anyone have a similar experience? I'm not trying to single them out for their nationality, and sorry for the rant, but it's becoming unbearable and destructive to a program that I have invested my time, high motivation, and forward-thinking-ness into, and I'm worried about the future.![]()
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.
I've had some bad experiences in the past. But you can not paint them all with the same brush.
If I have to listen to one more tirade though, about farangs and their salary....Then you will see a flying headbutt off the top rope.....

I will suppose that that you didn't mean my beef, because I'm more than happy to work with the others who choose to be individuals who look out for themselves. I don't even mind the 'union' nature of it, but it's not even unanimous among the Filipinos I work with.
I don't presuppose anyone's preferences or predispositions on the basis of nationality.
I taught with mainly Philiipinos.
Never had a problem..didn't communicate a lot.
---Update---
They were all of the born again species.
I pretty damn sure that one fine young lady amounst their group offed my lovely silver pen.

At the gig I had in Chumporn they'd hog the computers reading all about Jesus, use the printer and school-owned paper to make fliers. They get on well with Thais it seems.
It's clear from his av that he'd be a fearsome opponent in a clinch.
