My agency got the heave-ho, so I did to

After months of searching without luck, due to my age, I finally got a job 3 hours out of Bangkok.
Went to work last Wednesday and noticed that the 2 other farang teachers weren't in.
Taught my first 2 classes and was then informed: "Didn't anybody tell you?"
Your agency's contract has been cancelled as they were unable to supply teachers.
Not to worry she said, the school will pay you for the days you worked. Still waiting for that.
    Back to searching.
I like you. You remind me of when I was young and stupid.

Since you have a contract with your agency, they can just send you to another school, right?

Just curious; how old are you?

    That sucks, good luck.

    I'm 64.
Yes the agency phoned yesterday and offered another school.
I hadn't signed a contract at that time.

Okay, so the agency has enough clients to place you elsewhere. I was crossing my fingers that they wouldn't just put you out in the cold. Good luck at your new assignment!

Well sorted then, good. 64 is a number; what matters is your appearance and your energy levels. Cheers.

I don't mean to be mean, but why don't you have enough savings to retire at 64?

Maybe he did, prior to the crash a few years ago. He could just want to work to have something to do. I feel sorry for the older guys whose entire life seems to be waking up at 9:00am drinking themselves into a stupor and passing out by 9pm, daily.

Why would you assume that? I'm 67 and the only reason I quit teaching (@63) was because my knees wouldn't take the constant walking in every class.
If I can't walk my class; every row, every student, for the whole class, then I couldn't do my job as it needed to be done.

64 years young; go for it.

Agreed. They have it completely wrong. What they should be doing is waking up at 9pm and then drinking through until 9am.

There are other options besides teaching and drinking. Still, I take the point--many do keep teaching for the love of it.
