my mother's a small fat old lady. and a teacher (retired last year). i can't see that happening to my mom. yes, those kids are mean little shits, but this woman has no clue how to handle teenagers (in contrast to my mom, who taught crims too young for prison for a while). most of the stuff they said was "your'e fat, you're old, you're poor." really, those should not be crushing blows, especially if you are old, fat and poor... i mean, wasn't she aware of it until now? had she taken it in stride they'd get bored pretty quickly and start to like her. and if she was creative (and salty) enough to zing the little shits back, they'd have even start liking her pretty quickly.Originally Posted by WilliamBlake

Ideally she should be commanding enough to handle those kind of extreme situations (like your mother?) ... rare as they are. On the other hand ... why the Hell should she? It's just a school bus!
...fortunately, that's not the only alternative: I've already suggested reporting the offending turds to the principal and having them removed from the bus for a week or so...parents will think differently about their precious ducklings when they have to be driven to school...

She certainly shouldn't have just sat there and sulked. Maybe speak to the driver for a bit of support? Stop the bus until the little cunts settle down? SOMETHING!
What WAS the driver doing? Would it have been the same story if a little kid was being bullied?
As for the lady, she was obviously intimidated- a busload of swearing teens would unsettle most people, and I don't agree that it's her job to handle it alone, as she seems to have been left to do.

i think its the result of letting the kids get away with smarting off for too long and not doing anything about it.
there would be a system of warnings for acting up leading up to being suspended from riding the bus, i;m guessing the kids had been testing her for a long time and she never did anything.
I doubt that they just one day got on the bus and started acting like assholes.

doesn't excuse the kids AT ALL, but she certainly doesn't appear to be in any way suited to the job temperament-wise and doesn't seem to have taken any steps to learn how to do it. given her age she probably took any job she could get when the economy went in the crapper (and either the value of her home tanked or her pension dried up) and had zero experience dealing with kids who weren't hers.

I'm implying that she is NOT a guard on Penitentiary Bus. This particular situation is way beyond the normal expectations of her working environment. Why should she be expected to handle violent and/or abusive situations ... on a God damned school bus!
On the other hand ... if this is going to be a growing daily occurance in America ... maybe they should start putting trained gaurds with batons on kiddy school buses.

Let's see. 70 y.o woman. Right. Let's imagine a 35 y.o male bus driver physically attacked by four 16 y.o thugs and suffering injuries relative to the old woman's emotional injuries. Do you sack him for "failing to do his job"?
