These routine global phenomenas draw zero to minimal criticism.

All it usually takes is for a staright male to pay for the services of another female (esp a younger one) and the 'feminists', 'human rights activists' and other pesting squalor come flying in en masse.....
The question that naturally creeps up : is it straight male sexuality that is under attack? Why are we seen as the "exploiters"?

It's pretty simple; historically, this has in fact been the case, but it's arguable whether the metaphor translates to sexpats in Thailand.
Women buying male prostitutes and gay men buying gay men has been less high profile an probably less statistically prominent in history, so it draws less attention and scrutiny.

There is the added fact that straight men buying sex from prostitutes is an (imagined) threat to western civilization. If men can easily turn to the marketplace to satisfy their sexual desires, it is difficult for wives to use sex as a weapon for power in the relationship. That's why middle aged women get so upset at the topic, and why paradoxically many feminists want to make laws restricting what women can legally do with their bodies. It also offends men who were indoctrinated in the romantic love ideals that have characterized western civilization for the past thousand years, which encourages them to feel morally obligated to protect any and all women.

I think anyone who has spent more than a year outside of the western world sees through both streams of bullshit.

Spot on dude, a very insightful perspective...

Indeed, western women, on the other hand, don't seem to hesitate the slightest bit in chasing younger/more attractive male partners.
Here's an example I witnessed about a month ago. My mate has a flatmate from Gambia, who has a wife and kids back in his home country, but came to Australia to study. Last time i visited their apartment, he was with a white australian woman, who looked older than my mum (most of us are in our late twenties here !. I then asked my mate, who was the woman with the guy, to which he replied that she's quite obviously his 'older' mistress and the whole flat knows about it cuz of their loud shaggin, they met online and the lady needs some 'comforting' since she's just broke up with her bf. I dont think she was paying him though - but the point is: if we switch this around (an older white aussie bloke sleeping with a young married african female, who is a student and is living in student accomodation!!). Would that be possible here in WA??Hell no!.... Thats the hypocricy we westerners tolerate back in our home countries... I hate judging. But I also hate hypocricy. Its becoming a civilizational problem, as Thinkongofachange has pointed out.

Prostitution is LEGAL (with some restrictions that aren't that bad) most all of Europe including , France, Wales, Denmark, etc., most of South America including most of Mexico (often in special zones), Israel (Tel Aviv known as the brothel capital of the world), Australia, and many other countries. It is either legal or very tolerated in most all of Asia and even Iran has "temporary wives" which can be for only a few hours! New Zealand passed in 2003 one of the most comprehensive decriminalization acts which even made street hookers legal which is causing many concerns. I do NOT support public nuisance street hookers being legal unless in special zones.

So somebody please find the divorce stats for all these countries and compare them with the divorce stats for the countries where prozies are illegal. Oh, and while you're at it name a country where prostitution is illegal but is actually in full swing. Then poll about 2 billion men to find out if prozies hurt their marriage or harmed it .. then do about 2 billion women and ask them if prozies hurt or benefited their marriage. Then poll all the prozies in the word to see what they think. There's your answer!
