A couple of oddities from Newcastle

A couple of photographs of two of my favourite places in Newcastle, I am very happy to now have photos of them to show people.

The Shoe Tree in Heaton Park

Nobody knows why this started to happen but shoes have been appearing in this tree for many years. Some say it is witches whilst others say it is a right of passage into a clan.

    The Vampire Rabbit of Newcastle.

I used to like to take people when they were off there nut on some sort of halucanigenics and show them this scary vampire rabbit.

Little oddities like the vampire rabbit are what really make a city interesting.
In Birmingham, we had a tiny statue (blink and you'd miss it) cast in bronze of a naked woman called 'Little Alba'. It was somewhere near Smallbrook Queensway for those that know the city.
A famous Victorian gentleman (so famous I can't recall his name) paid a fleeting visit to Birmingham and said 'the city is nothing but a barnacle with little to restore one's flagging spirits....except of course for Little Alba'
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.

Re: A couple of oddities from Newcastle

It's a pity that the links posted on this thread no longer work since the rearrangement of this board - I just came across this thread after hours of searching and I'm mighltiy disappointed.

    They were really great pics!
