I was appreciating the fact that I have quite a few best friends in the west. Really great friends are hard to find.
I was also thinking that when I am in Korea or other parts of Asia, I tend to be friends with the locals (and a few foreigners). I find that I almost prefer hanging out with the locals because I get to know about the culture and learn the language. I also find it comforting to have a few western friends who I can relate to and chill out with. For the most part I have realized that a lot of people who live abroad hard to rely on and transient. People come and go and it can take awhile to find good friends while living in Asia.
I have also seen some real idiots foreigners while living in Asia. The type who go to work drunk, hit kids, and swear at other teachers.
Do you hang out with other foreigners, locals or a mix bag of people?
Do you find it hard to make good friends while living abroad?
I usually hangout with Thai people while in Thailand. I have found other Americans who are dating Thais, and I find it fun to double date with them
the OP looks like it was written by a thai M1/2 bilingual student
4/11 sentences begin with "I". 2 are questions so those can be thrown out, so really 4/9.
12 "I"s used throughout the 183 word post.
That's not to mention the errors in syntax, spelling, and general sentence construction.
I propose that 5anuk and PB get together...

But, yes, it's hard to find long-term friends within a largely transient culture while living abroad. Color me shocked.![]()

As a general rule; I don't have much in common with many of the farang attracted to Thailand. So far, I have 2 or 3 "friends" here who are Thai.
I have one friend here who is a farang. He just happens to be an American.
But in the end, I'm social, but not very good at, especially in the states.
