A member of TV, I don't know if he ever posted here, offed himself in Chiang Mai. Here's a link to his website where he talks about his life and his intentions: Larry Wheeler Life and death.
He was fortunate to have money but he knew it wouldn't last and when it ran out he was out of time.
It's something for those of us without plans for retirement to reflect on.

Aloha - Aloha HARD
that reads ridiculous...as if he had no choice. I think I'm missing something..
yah well his problem is depression. a shame really, coz no matter how dire one's lot is, an optimist will be optimistic, and a depressive will see only darkness. he's not in his right mind obviously. i have a similar background and live a very similar life, but happily have social skills and some quality relationships. and no elf problems. yet.
He had had one or more strokes in recent years but I agree depression was a major issue for him. It's not certain how much money he had left but it seems he wanted to get out while he still had some funds and the ability to take care of his final business needs.
Good OP. Seems to me the issue here is a lifetime of having had no relationships beyond the mother's apron strings. Once the parents are gone what's left but for the housekeeper and the landlord to clean up in their own respective ways.
Beyond this guy's clear lack of social skills, there's also the point that so many here complain of the difficulty of finding meaningful friendships, not just with the locals but with fellow expats who either have questionable personality traits or are inevitably in transit... so this could happen to more of us than the antisocial, depressed or socially inept.
...a common sense solution to a financial problem...I agree completely with his decision and congratulate him for thinking through his plan...definitely beats a bottle of whisky and a shotgun...
...majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd...
Sounds like he did his best.
R.I.P.
There are few problems in life that cannot be solved with toast.
One of them, however, is opening a can of corned beef with that stupid key. This cannot easily be done at the best of times, and toast is of surprisingly little use in resolving the issue.
Reads like a complete wind up to me.
He wasn't social so he was depressed...because people add so much to ones life...oh please do F$$$ off...
Maybe he understood the reality of his situation and did the most respectful thing he could do for his fellow man and himself...not wanting to be a burden to a society he asked nothing from he decided to exit at a time of his choosing in a way that would not affect those around him in any substantially negative way...
He deserves accolades for his respect of his fellow man and everyone on Earth should attend his funeral and learn from his actions...

"Take this, brother; may it serve you well."
Why would he give a shit about anyone's opinion? If are reading this, and if you have an opinion to offer, please leave an email at Ajarn@loxinfo.co.th
Definitely a windup......
Windup...I'll give you this...and you decide if it's a windup...
if Cluezo posts one more thread celebrating the decline of humanity...I'll off myself...the problem is I can't decide if he's a deranged genius who hates the world...or a fukwit who actually thinks it's funny...the shit he posts...
if it's the former he's got my respect...if the ladder I'll off myself in protest of that very decline...
