    Is Canada really USA2?

As much as I like to bash Canada, I think Britain gets the honorary spot in licking American a$$.

The proof has been there at least since the war in Iraq.

Therefore I must ask, is Canada really a 51st US state or is it Britain?

We do indeed hold the UK in high esteem. And we like to share wars and spoils. There never is a lot of news from Canada, certainly nothing exciting .. no earthquakes, no floods, no range fires. All those along the border Yanks know Canada but the rest of us are uninterested.

I know Canada pretty well for a Californian and I swear as you cross the border you definitely get the idea you're in a foreign country. I think Toronto is a pretty hip city and Vancouver can be fun. Most Canadians aren't all that interesting tho. Most Americans aren't that interesting either. Canadians remind me of the Northern Mid West Americans who as well bore me. They talk an ugly form of English and seem 50 years behind the times with their old cliches and racist ice hockey mentality. Russ and PB are good examples of typical cheese heads. Of course the longer we live abroad the more rounded we become.

I pretty much agree with jd except I'm not so sure Canadians are on the whole very racist. There's certainly a lot of tension with Asian immigrants, but who can blame them? Other than that, it seems like a pretty boring part of the world, which is good in some ways.

I can see how people might consider Canada boring. It seem not much happens here. This northern/hockey thing though has no real foundation.

There was a time when Canada was quite British/European. That's changed a lot. Obviously we have been the most susceptible to American culture. Throw in the enormous number of Asian immigrants and the multi-culturalism we've had jammed down out throats .......and we have what we have.

The demographic and cultural changes are, perhaps, inevitable.

It would be a mistake for people to assume we are too much like Americans, many people do that...

Our institutions and cultural values are very different than the Americans. This constitutes an integral part of the Canadian pysche. I'd say we will remain more "British" than American.( Although my experience is limited0, I haven't actually seen much of the country. I'd like to but really only know B.C.

I generally like our neighbours to the south, although they often come across as a bit coarse for my tastes.

Canada will not become the 51st state. The manifest destiny, "ripe apple falling" idea that many Americans like to believe is just never going to happen.
“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

it is boring. it is full of racist hicks. but the cities have a few non cookiecutter sophisticated people. i like asians and asians like me so i never had an issue with them swamping the place, honestly, the less white people the better. i have no love for canada. apart from the best health care system in the world and the generous and humane welfare state and the greatest immigration experiment in the world, the country can go fuck itself.

if i could renounce my canadian citizenship i probably would. i probably will eventually. i would actually much rather live in busted ass falling to bits insane in the membrane crooked to the core viet nam than fucking canada. but i intend to see my dotage out in bangkok.

The Canadian I most respected and liked was this Muzzie guy from Vancouver I met in Mexico. I invited him to join up and post here a couple of times but he declined. He had some revolutionary beliefs and a great writer. He used to get shit from the directer (a Canadian woman) over his wearing those long white Mussie shirts. He told them to fuc off. Next to him was a Black Canadian guy who had roots in the UK. He had a Mexican wife so didn't get so much shit from the boss. All the Canadian girls who worked there were either Bible thumping or slutty. The Vancouver Language Centre.

racist? probably the least racist place on the planet.

hicks? far more hicks down south of here.

But I do hear where you're coming from.

I could never stay in a country long term and accept not being a citizen.

I do have a problem with the changing demographic, but for what I consider legitimate reasons.

I wish to live in a country where things are generally British/French/European.

I don't really have any positive views on the massive cultural changes that have been brought about as a result of what I consider seriously poor immigration planning.

I do not consider myself a racist though see how some may consider me as such....

I'm really an "east is east and west is west guy".

    ---Update---

And fortunately, things have not really changed that much in Muskogee.

    Things are okay.

Hey Russ, you're a hick! Out of denial, hick. Everything you have posted here proves you're a hick, Russ. Don't answer me, all hicks are on ignore.

    hick 2124 up, 660 down
A derogatory slang term for lower class whites raised in rural areas, usually within trailer parks or hog farms. Generally used more for Midwesterners than Southerners (see: redneck)
General defining characteristics of a hick: Protestant upbringing, usually Baptist; racist and sexist opinions; does not attend collage ; dumber than a post.
That hick Dwayne wanted to take me muddin' in the stripper pits last night.

Have you been to the 4-H fair? God what a hick town.

Is a hick the same as a redneck?

now this is an incredibly redeeming feature of canada. i lived in a cool neighbourhood (chinatown) where everyone we knew was jamaican or salvadoran or ethiopian or senegalese or vitnamee or something. we had cool parties where you'd hear a dozen languages and the white pals didn't pretend they were superior to anyone else. we were living in the future man. very cool.

    Anyway, I've been called worse.

I'm a WASP and not unproud of it.

I won't be offering any apologies to any oppressed people's, whether currently oppressed or oppressed in the past.

Sure I wish to maintain the cultural identity of the country in which I was born....i.e. British/French/European.

    So what?

    This is somehow a crime?

Anyway, maybe back to the OP and some intelligent responses?

well i don't think opacity or idiocy is a crime. i think you're safe. intelligent people don't really come across as much worthier or less offensive so you're alright with me.

If I remember correctly, your Canadian experience was of a negative nature.

Or maybe I am confusing you with someone else in which case, I apologize.

Wasn't your family booted out during an early purge.

Or are you the Indian guy? (Six Nations)
