Arthur Harris drew some great maps. Highly recommended. Not a great amount of detail but all the towns are shown.

Not much work in Pattaya, too many winos who think that they speak English and trying use the teaching gigs to pay their bartabs brings down the market to a very very poor pay level. Much better to base in Bangkok if you want to earn a living teaching.

That said, Pattaya offers a pretty good lifestlye if you want a western life with all the mod cons and much less smog than Bangkok. Live on the darkside and it is not quite the roaring cesspool that the ajarn.commers would have you believe. English movies, good shopping, modern superstores, easy transport options, but living in Bangkok will assure you of never being bored on a Saturday night. Saphon cable is better then Banglamung TV but ...............

Pattaya is pretty much what you make it.

I would recommend you live in Isaan and then you can fly down to the islands from Udon or easily get to Laos to chill out in Vientiane or party your face off in Vang Vieng. It's also only 6-8 hours (approx) bus to Bangkok*

    Pattaya - Pros
Everyone seems to think Walking street and it's surrounds is Pattaya complete. Head down South a bit or East across Sukhumvit and it's pretty much the same as other Thai town. Lot's of pleasant little Bans around.

The traffic is no where near as bad as Bangkok. It's easy to get around. Songthaews everywhere. Farang friendly supermarkets.

    Pattaya - Cons
    No work

I'm afraid most of the anti Pattaya comments are automatic kneejerk "hear" / "say". "Monkey see, monkey do"

Pattaya's great for the weekend but I can't imagine I'd want to live there. Might suit some people, but Bangkok has much more going on. Depends what you're looking for.
