There's a woman who just tried to save some money on an ass job and is now in Lad Prao Hospital in ICU.
If I'm following the story correctly, she's from Lad Prao Soi 1, and the clinic may be there too. This is very near our home and my wife is following the story closely. We've also both been to Lad Prao Hospital.
I've had surgery in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Manila as well as in California. I understand that medical tourism is big business and that elective procedures are popular with foreigners and locals alike. But this poor woman is not alone in experiencing tragedy because of a needless procedure.
Does anybody else know anythng about this case?
pictures would help
fred
So she's a farang?

No, all local. (Lad Prao Soi 1) It's been on Thai news (Ch 3 & Ch 7) today.
Somebody with a Thai spouse or really good Thai language would probably know more.
Anyway, the video showed a woman who looked like she was in a coma in an ICU at Lad Prao Hospital.
I think the clinic was half price compared to a hospital. I'm assuming that an implant leaked.
That's what I know so far.
jesus. there was an even more bizarre tragedy here awhile back. this boy was razzed by his friends for having no ass to the point that he bought a gallon of silicone, and thinking if he would inject it all into his asscheeks he would have a butt like everyone else.
he actually injected a large quantity into himself and quickly went into shock and died.

VietNamNet Bridge – Being disparaged by his friends for having flat buttocks, Tri, 21, bought 500 cc of liquid silicon to inject into his buttock. The man died at a HCM City’s hospital last weekend.

Doctors of the Trung Vuong Hospital said the young man was brought to hospital with a swollen buttock and he was in a coma.
“We immediately performed a surgery to remove the silicon but a large volume of silicon had absorbed into his blood vessels and adipose tissues so the treatment was helpless. The patient got weaker due to respiratory failure and died,” a doctor said.
Doctors said that the large volume of silicon injected into the patient’s body caused lung failure.
They warned people to not self “upgrade” their faces, lips, busts or buttocks by silicon because the risk of fatality is up to 50 percent.
“Making a body part bigger is not simple as someone thought that they only need to inject silicon into it,” a doctor said.

horrible story but hard not to laff.
It sounds like a near identical tragedy to me.
The woman on the television news could very well have been in shock. Some ding-a-ling who didn't know any better could have injected silicone into her. (Which is what I'm trying to find out.)
Thanks for the post. It was informative. Sad, but informative.
Tragic. But it's Darwin's Law.
I sleep in the daytime, I
Work in the night time, I
Might not ever get home
Well if darwins law is to excise the stupid then its not working.
...here's the story from The Nation:
Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri said he has instructed the Health Service Support Department (HSSD) to inspect and strictly control beauty and aesthetic clinics nationwide.
Clinic operators who are found to be giving beauty injections without medical licenses will serve jail sentences, he added.
The crackdown comes after the Public Health Ministry learned of a 33-year-old female promotional model who became severely ill after she received a collagen injection at a condominium in Bangkok's Lat Phrao area from a man who claimed he was a doctor.
She developed a severe complication five minutes after receiving an injection of collagen solution to smooth out wrinkles in her hip. Her heart stopped beating and her brain was damaged due to lack of oxygen. She is now undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital for what's been diagnosed as "sleeping beauty syndrome", or Kleine-Levin syndrome, a neurological disorder characterised by excessive sleep.
"Legal experts and health officials are now investigating the cause of the severe illness of a promotional model," said Dr Tares Krassanairawiwong, the HSSD's deputy director general.
Injecting collagen or other substances into your body in an effort to keep looking young might cause adverse side effects and even death, Dr Tares added. Side effects include inflamed skin, blood clots, low blood pressure, organ failure, shock, paralysis and blindness.
Dr Atthaphan Pornmontarath, president of the Thai Association and Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine, said most cases in which complications have developed from collagen injections were because the solution was made from animal protein or because too much was used.
Patients seeking aesthetic treatments should ask the clinic's doctor to show his or her medical license. They should also ask to see the label of the collagen solution, which must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Dr Amnart Kusalanant, president of the Medical Council of Thailand, said the council is checking the records of the man who claimed that he was a physician and injected the model.
"If we find that he was a fake doctor, he will face two years in jail as punishment," Dr Amnart said. "It's a violation of the Medical Professional Act."
The Medical Council also called on the public for help in identifying the man.
...majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd...
Dude,
Thank you so much for that. I'd googled Ch 3, Ch 7, and checked the Bangkok Post Android ap. I hadn't checked with The Nation.
It's nice to know what happened and to have the facts (collagen, not silicon) straight.
And, I worry less now about my wife going out and doing something (else) stupid.
