This is the biggest city in Canada

And this is our very efficient public transport... also one of the most expensive in the world.

Why expensive? I can tell you NYC's subway is a fucking disgrace--it's filthy, late all the time, inefficient, and the people who work there are unfathmoably rude. I saw an MTA employee yell at a Danish tourist and call him "stupid". I went to yell at her but she quickly disappeared into some employee only room. Cunt.

3 bucks a ride is expensive while the salaries of booth collectors can be almost 100k depending on how much time they put.

And the subway is very, very inefficient (and dirty... it is actually a sad copy of NYC subway) considering there are only 3 lines in operation.

    Vancouver has no subway.

    All above ground.

    I like overground travel.

Paris seems to have the best system.

Seoul has an excellent subway system.

    Yeah...but you're in Seoul.

The newer the system, the better it tends to be (Paris is an interesting exception). That being said, one excuse for NYC is that it's open 24 hours, which means it's harder to clean and manage. Plus, the geography of Manhattan is pretty difficult to maintain a subway system (pumps constantly keep water out). It's still no excuse.

Recently, the MTA started removing trash cans from stations in an effort to keep the stations clean. Yeah, don't ask me to explain it.

It's still a small price to pay to live in the greatest city on Earth, but there are days when riding that subway really drives me crazy. I'm glad I don't have to commute on it for work (my wife does, and still she prefers NYC to moving to the countryside).

DC's got a good subway...or used to back when i was last there. Most subways in the US are old and outdated and generally fucked.
Russ is right about Seoul tho, easy to navigate, clean, safe, cheap...just stay off it during rush hours,

It is. Toronto was obviously designed by a man who needed to get to work in a hurry.
All the others were designed by one woman looking for new par of shoes.

Berlin is great. Well organised, clean and efficient as you would expect. Hong Kong would be ok if all those funny little people were banned from using it.
I think the start of David should be used as a template for new mass transit systems. With a North South and East West line intersecting it in the middle.

    ---Update---

I have never been to Athens so this is my only experience of Greek mass transit systems.
