    But--as you've already experienced--less reliable.

And, paully, are you suggestion $1 million isn't enough to retire on?

Well the OP's already admitted he's likely to fritter a wedge of it away in bars, TOAC, and he does have a fair few years to wile away..
Somehow I think that the $1 mill in capital will be tapped into - early and regularly afterwards. Thailand's not the place to top up your capital funds.

^ Yes, got to watch out for those Pattaya balconies. Farang are fairly flying off them.

I struggle to spend more than $3k/mo. in NYC, let alone in Thailand. I guess if you play with the bar girls it's possible. Especially if you're really gullible and/or stupid. I'd assume neither is true of someone who acquired $1m by 38, though.

I really don't know what I'd do with $1 million--really hard to even imagine it.

Don't beat yourself over it. Probably an inheritance.

I don't mind--some people have more money than others. It's life.

Whatever the OP does with his time, I would strongly advise against anything that requires any substantial capital investment here.

The Thai Baht is a weak currency and with the current concerns over Thailand's banking system there is more chance of an unpleasant devaluation that for many years.

A million Dollars can become seven hundred thousand very quickly without spending anything at all.

...of course: only investment income is transferred here, not the investments themselves...

Invest all your millions in the local sick buffalo farms, or give it to some Thai woman to take care of

Either way, your millions will be down to pennies,

Then you'll have nothing, and you will ask for help for money for a flight home via a Forum, then get home and feel bitter and twisted about Thailand, and then sit in front of a computer posting on a Thai teaching based Forum, when you aren't in Thailand and you aren't even a teacher
Sounds a bit like a few posters already

Or you might start a website. When it sputters and fails you can go clinging to your wreckage and do your best to sink the mother ship .. as a little girl would do. And if you're gay try a little sublimation by naming yourself after Black rappers. Works every time.
