Well, not you, the Thai people.
I've heard last year that the government (if I understood well) was offering a discount of 100000thb to those buying their first car. I'm thinking to buy one, probably use a Thai friend, but I don't know if the offer' is still available. Do you know anything about this? Plus, I understand that the discount is only for some cars, some models. What are these models?
Thanks!

small, eco friendly ones i think. I know our Nissan March was included.
Tata Nano? Yugo 45? Lada Niva?
It is the 1st car scheme... you don't get a discount, but you can claim up to 100k tax back, after being the only owner for 5 years ( I think)
I think the scheme includes any cars that are made/assembled in Thailand. I think.
So, if one doesn't work and doesn't pay taxes, that means that there's no 100k... right? Taxes always confuse me.
Budhas, stop making fun of Lada Niva - lada niva (LADA vs HUMMER) - YouTube![]()
I once rode in a Lada. Fun, cute little car. I wish I could buy one.
The scheme relates to smaller cars, under 1800cc I believe, and the tax refund is a rebate of some of the excise duty paid on the car. The first ThB 100,000 refunds are just being paid this month. There's quite a racket (Ah, NEVER, I hear you gasp) whereby people are registering cars in younger relatives' names and sharing the rebate. Nobody ever thought to check that the person buying the car has a driving licence. I know because staff in the tax department are doing it.
A similar scheme exists for property whereby there is a rebate amounting to 10% of the value of the property, which is given by way of a reduction on the purchaser's income taxes over a three year term. The maximum value of said property is ThB 5,millon and this does apply to foreigners, but the deal ends on 31st December.

FFS ... could you imagine the uproar in Western countries where at least a modicum of common sense prevails?

Actually ... 100,000 not to buy a car would still buy votes.
That is like saying the government should give you 100k to quit smoking. Or 100k to quit drinking.
I am surprised that grown men like you still don't understand that governments are legal racket. Legalized mafia.
It's like watching a presidential debate and discussing which one of 2 Mafioso won. Then cumming all over because Biden "won".
Who gives a shit? They're all the same.
