Re-entry permit at land borders

Can you get a re-entry permit at any border checkpoint as you leave the country? My travel agent and one website said yes, but others seem unsure.

My plan is to go to Cambodia via Hat Lek. Can I apply for re-entry there? Or at the immigration office in Khlong Yai? Or is it necessary to do it in BKK? Since it's the Songkran period, the offices will be closed, so I hope the border points do re-entry permits.

Also, is it possible to pop into Suvarnabhumi and get the re-entry WITHOUT a plane boarding pass if you explain that you're going overland? That might be an option, but they've always wanted to see the boarding pass before.

Thanks.

Re: Re-entry permit at land borders

No re-entry permits at borders mate. Suwanaphum and Suan Plu are all that I know. I have to get one for May as I am leaving via rail and there is not shit at Padang Pasar where I and the family will exit.

Boarding pass is necessary. Its painless and 15 to 30 minutes max. They are valid for at least 3 months.

Thanks. Looks like I might have to wait until after Songkran - can't get time off work before. Can travel agents do it for you? That would save time. So Suvarnabhumi is impossible if I'm not going by plane?

Yes it is impossible. If you are there at 8:30 or 9 you will be out in 20 minutes max. How can a travel agent do that? After 2 its slower, as in less crowded as well.

Its part of the show bro, you cant miss it.

Re: Re-entry permit at land borders

Sure, but I literally have no time to go this week. If I drop it off at a travel agent, it doesn't matter if they take 20 minutes or three days - I can just pick it up any time. Do you think it's possible? I'll call some travel agents tomorrow. Otherwise I'll have to sit around here during Songkran and waste several days of holidays. Or book a flight I suppose.

Re: Re-entry permit at land borders

OK, sorry, I should've explained it more clearly. I live a long way from Suan Phlu and I work during the day. I can get it to a nearby travel agent who can take my passport in while I'm at work. Then I could get it back the next evening or on Saturday or whenever's convenient. I just don't know if travel agents can do it, especially suburban ones.

Oh, that sounds good. And the travel agent said it was possible, but I don't think he really knew. Where can I get 100% sure info about the Hat Lek border?

Hat Lek is in Trat province on the border with Cambodia. I've been there before many years ago but I didn't need a re-entry permit that time.

Re: Re-entry permit at land borders

I was there last month. when i was in nakon phanom there wasnt any sign saying they did re-entry stamps. if you could get someone to call down there and speak thai to them you may get a vague answer, as its a pretty easy question. i think it may be a standard procedure at border crossings. why would they not do it? it gives them an extra 1900baht?

Re: Re-entry permit at land borders

Should be 1000 baht. I did one a couple of months ago at the airport and that was still the price.

I agree that they SHOULD be able to do it. It's such an easy thing once they've sorted out the red tape, and as you say they get money from it. But I don't want to get all the way to the border and find they don't do it, so I'll have to ask around a bit more to be certain.

Re: Re-entry permit at land borders

Yeah, thats not a fun place to end up if you cant get what you want.

Call them. my wife talked with immigration/customs about a few things and they were very helpful. you may get lucky and have someone on the other end that can do their job and tell you what you need to know. wouldnt hold my breath however.
