Tomcat Eats OutThe best restaurant reviews. Mainly by Tomcat but we'll move any well written reviews here too.

SD and I stopped in for lunch at the Emporium Greyhound this weekend on our way to buy a NEW SONY "V" SERIES 300 LCD TV. The menu features several new additions and I tried the first one I saw...pasta with a fresh seafood sauce. Yum! We're big fans of Greyhound (Emporium branch only) and have lunch there at least once a month. I dug into the pasta as soon as it arrived...I expected it to be just this side of painfully chili-ized, and it was. The seafood was a tad overcooked (mushy shrimp bodies) but the light brown mushrooms had an excellent consistency...and an odd taste of the sea. SD had a taste and pronounced them jellyfish slices, not mushrooms. They weren't repulsive (this IS Greyhound, after all), but I don't think I would sit down and order a few slices on rice anytime soon.
Has anyone been surprised like this, having an animal you would normally avoid tossed into the stew?

I think you are refering to Hed Hoo Noo (wood ear mushrooms) a member of the Jelly Fungus group - Can be slipery and shiny in apearance and have the texture of jellyfish. They don't really tast of much but take on the flavour of what they are cooked with....
Did you get the TV?

Well, Chris...SD reaffirms that it was, indeed, jellyfish that slithered down my throat. He's Thai-Chi and jellyfish are a normal (though not very frequent) part of his diet...he also says hed hoo noo are black (and what I had was a light brown)...these were definitely jellyfish, he says.
The TV is up and running....fabulous picture, same mediocre programming....*sigh*

^Certainly....In fact, here's a serving suggestion:
...throw the mushy peas over your shoulder and eat the hed hoo noo.
...and make sure tomcat is standing behind you

Up bobs the common misconception that Greyhound is horribily over-priced..actually, it isn't! It's not a bad deal there at all, in my experience.
Something like that O'Briens place or whatnot, so many everywhere..same prices, crappy boring food and dumb atmosphere. I like Greyhound, but no, not jellyfish.
Ever since my brother dove off the top mast of an "old ship" in Long Island sound and landed face-first on a stinger..I've been...mad at them.
