Tuba Design Furniture and Restaurant

Thong Lor soi 20, on the right almost at Ekkemai. This place has to be seen to be believed. It's chock-a-block with bric-a-brac, doodads, curios and really ugly, really old, really used furniture. SD and I noted their surprise that they had lunchtime customers...a waiter quickly threw on a jacket to cover his t-shirt and mama-chef came out of the kitchen to inspect us. After checking out every room in this JJ on Ekkemai, we settled at a table and ordered from menus dressed in tuxedoes.

We decided on something light as we were unsure that mama could fulfill the menu's promise of home-cooked Italian cuisine. We started with a sea-food salad that promised to include pork, beef and chicken. It came soaked in a kind of sweet, ranch dressing minus the pork, beef and chicken. They weren't missed. We moved on to mussels in a light tomato sauce. These were fresh, plump, and tasty, though the sauce was a little watery. We ended with a pasta which had a sauce of chili, oil and bacon. It wasn't too bad and the pasta wasn't overcooked. The house wine (b150 per), something called Sta. Alicia cab sauv, must see double duty as insect repellent.

The checkbin came to B1100. The place has a bar and possibly does most of its business in the evening. We were grateful they turned on the A/C for us, but it wasn't enough to assuage the odd vibe the place gave off.
