Tomcat Eats OutThe best restaurant reviews. Mainly by Tomcat but we'll move any well written reviews here too.
As ever, sponsored by the very lovely Chris at Oh My Cod!
Can I be his straight sidekick? Sure would beat teaching, and be right up my alley as well.
For a 'straight sidekick' you'll need to avoid the fruity double entendres.
What a strange post by cookiemonster.
Personally I hate it when food critics have obviously announced their arrival, are greeted fulsomely at the door and are obviously getting a slap up freebie.
I'm sure that's a major reason why so many of us find TCs comments reliable - whilst no more than his honest take.

I agree with you, if you anounce you are a food critic when you arrive at a restaurant, then people will fall over themselves to make sure that you are well looked after. However, i think that if you dont like some items on the menu, you should tell the owner/manager and give constructive critisism. You dont arrive like Tomcat did, talk to the owner and say you will tell all your friends to come to the restaurant, tell him the food was great and then do a bad review. Thats a cowards way! If you are that good a food critic you should have the balls there and then to tell the owner/chef that the food is crap. Dont pussy foot around then back stab! Maybe Tomcat should stick to reviewing fish and chip shops! Miss Thailand world has eaten in the restaurant, the bangkok post liked it and The big Chilli did a great review. Maybe his knowledge of good food is like the string vests he wears, (full of holes)!!! and rarely washed and aired!
Hey Cookie Monster! You are in danger of being baked-off! Do not insult friends who you do not know!! TC is a good man, and knows his cookery/food/wines/ restaurants/ and human beings mate!!

hmmm...dearest CM:
1) How on earth would you know what I said to James?...or are you James?
2) It's not my place to tell restaurants how to prepare their food. I'm a paying customer and entitled to my opinion, whether I choose to express it to management or not.
3) I can't comment on Miss Thailand's knowledge of Moroccan cuisine (the subject of my review).
4) Again, Post reviewers (and any others) are entitled to their opinions...why are you so upset over mine (you don't have a vested interest in this place, do you)?
5) If you're not James, ask him to explain to you what a string vest is and if he's seen any recently...

Enough of the interest in string vests awready.
Cookie does seem to be filing quite a lot away here though.

The big chilli is a free mag, isn't it? Maybe it's nominally 50 baht or so, but nobody actually PAYS for it, do they? They just read it 'cos it's around in hotels and pubs etc., right?
So they make their money from advertising and.............well, actually, that's all they make their money from, right?
Soo...their restaurant reviews are how reliable do you think?
I won't even bother questioning the reliability of the bangkok post.
Soo..what do you care, cookie?

Big bill
how do you know that? I am not slagging him off. But how do you know he knows his food and wines? As I said, what are his credentials? Being a retired teacher from Chula and then assuming an alter ego as a food critic is not licence to bomb a restaurant. Its not real and not honest. Especially after he told the owner he liked everything on the menu! And why is he not online to defend himself? As a restaurant owner (not me) you have to go with the flow and accept bad press. But as a self proclaimed food critic you have to accept a challenge to your review. Dont you think???
No i am not the owner of the restaurant. No I dont have a vested interest in it. But the guy is a friend of mine. And I know he was excited that you came in and ate at his place. ( he made notes) You came in on Saturday lunchtime, you are about fifty something and you have a moustache (of sorts). You came in with a Thai guy and proclaimed that you were both called Tom. You chatted with him (James) and when you left told him you would come back and bring your friends! At no point in the evening did you comment on the food or wine. To then go and write up a crappy review in my book is pretty yellow mate. If you have such a wealth of knowledge of moroccon food why didnt you offer your expertise and give him a few pointers? After reading your review of this restaurant I looked at a few others you have reviewed. And each time you always have something negative to say. I hope that in the future you open your own business and will lay yourself open to any Tom, Dick or Harry to come and flame your business!!! By the way what are your credentials?? you still havent answered!
You are right. The Big chilli will always do a decent review because they want you to buy advertising space. But i do think the Bkk Post is a bit more professional. So are you saying that we should ignore those publications and just go with whatever the Ajarn.com resident food critic (however unqualified or self proclaimed) recommends? Sounds like the blind following the blind if you ask me.
But i do think the Bkk Post is a bit more professional.
Thats funny.
The thing with TC is that he hasn't proclaimed himself to be anything besides a man who enjoys a nice meal. he gives his opinion. i believe there are several reviews where the place has come out glowing. CM is the biased one here as the place belongs to a "friend" of his. CM, go away. if you have a review i would love to read it, but really leave this one alone and go to bed.
