I have a WP and a non immigrant B visa which means I have to extend my visa every 90 days at the immigration office in Nakhon Si Thammarat. I just looked at my passport and if I go to the office tomorrow I will be exactly 1 day late. Will I be fined 500 baht or is there any sort of grace period? Is it possible to have the fee waved if I burst into a incomprehensible tirade at the office? This has actually worked in some instances.

Why is that?
Cuz according to Immigration Act B.E. 2522 Section 76 you must "notify your place of residence to the immigration office every 90 days." This is how it's always been as far as I know. So am I gonna get fined or not?
90 day notification is NOT a visa extension; these two are disjointed from each other (i.e. early renewals of my last two non-Bs pushed those two events out of sync). I used to visit the now defunct Suvarnabum immigration center and they used to tell me that I had a grace period of a week before and after the deadline to complete the notification process. I am not sure if this is true, because I always go early rather than late. Btw, the penalty is not 500 bahts, but rather 5000.
My bad, I did mean notification. Surely there is a grace period. 5000 baht seems rather harsh for being 1 day late.
There is, at least at most offices, a seven day grace period. After that most places have a fine of 2,000 baht. You could have to pay 5,000, but I didn't and I don't know anyone who did.

I concur. At Prachuap Khiri Khan Immigration Office (Hua Hin) we can go up to 7 days before and 7 days after the notification date.
I never went for nearly 18 months. Only paid a 2,000 baht fine.
Yes, 18 days late 2,000 baht; 18 months 2,000 baht. It's normally one amount and not a certain amount per day.
7 days grace either way. Its written on the immigration website.
Procedure and notification
The foreigner makes the notification in person, or
The foreigner authorises another person to make the notification, or
The foreigner makes the notification by registered mail.
The notification must be made within 7 days before or after the period of 90 days expires.
The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days.
I have always done mine by mail, sometimes a week late. Just send a copy of - pages in passport, work permit, TM 47 notification form and self addressed return envelope, never had a problem. [image: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/paperwork/images/smilies/grin.gif]
It is seven days on either side but I'd never trust them on it. Go either before or on the day.

Plus or minus 7 days locally. If I am ever late, I think I will stop reporting this altogether.
I was reassured by aging one's reference to the immigration website's official statement on this matter. I went to the office yesterday and there wasn't a single eyebrow raised or literally a word uttered... very smooth. As with most things in Thailand, there's the official law, and then it is up to the government official in question and how they choose to put it into practice can vary. Thanks all!
