A most welcome piece of news. Old Speckled Hen is a wonderful drop of ale.I would think, and hope, that the joint would be packed with englishmen. 100 baht a pint isn't too bad either.

yeah mate, i've tried them all, the breweries about 30 minutes away from my home town. i was weaned on suffolk strong ale!

Adnams is great, but it doesn't travel very well - best enjoyed on the Suffolk coast :chug: :chug: :chug:

Luckily Southwold is only 20 minutes away for me, and within 10 miles I have 3 other very small breweries producing fine Suffolk ales :chug: :chug: :chug:

Funnily enough, the same as Speckled Hen, as is Ruddles.
They were selling cans of OSH at the Ploenchit Fair last November. They also had some Ruddles. It was quite good, but not a patch on Theakston's Yorkshire Bitter.

Actually it's not bad Marmite. A lot of breweries do it these days, I've had Hen, Abbot, Pedigree and several others. Obviously not as good as the draught stuff but still very drinkable.
I think bottled is better as the bottle doesn't impart a metallic twang. They sell Tetley's cans in the Bull's Head, but I can't bring myself to buy one.

I remember when the first draught guiness arrived in Thailand, I couldn't afford to get pissed on it though.

Mmnn, right now I'm supping on a 500ml bottle (well, it's almost a pint!) of delicious Abbot Ale....and outside in the cool garage are some nice bottles of Greene King IPA, Adnams Strong Suffolk and Timothy Taylor Landlord bitter...4 for a fiver, not bad. Great beer is one of the advantages of being in the UK. :chug:
All this old "Twig in a Barrell" or "Ratshead Brew" real ale is just a bag o shite isn't it?...

Good, they have changed the 'where.htm' to reflect the invite... lovely... I'll come straight from soccer practice and probably be at the Barbican at around 7 PM when it all starts.
Barbican is a nice place.... beer was very good, and so was my burritos for starters and the sirloin steak. With three pints of Old Speckled Hen it all came to 910 baht. Not too bad for a very decent meal.
Didn't see Marmite, though. He was probably hiding somewhere in the corner - nothing new there, that's the brits when they face the old vikings [image: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/dining-and-entertainment-in-thailand/images/smilies/grin.gif]

quite good... i'm not sure I'll be going back to the Beer Chang I've got stocked up... Not as good as the Franziskaner I got a few weeks back, though... maybe the atmosphere... There were some Frenchies in there.... 'oh, ah, uh, a whrole piint (add in a bit of very French accent here), not syre I can trink dhat'...
I was there, but things did get a bit wobbly after 7 or 8 pints. They sold over 230 pints at the Barbican - pretty good going!
I'm glad its a dry weekend so I can recover :chug:

I tried out the bulls head's offering on friday
i was a bit wobbly before i got there to be honest
ususlly drink kilkenny in bangkok but the OSH was far superior
hope they keep the quality up mind you
i wont disclose how many i got through
